Englefield House is a neo-Elizabethan country house built on the site of the original Elizabethan building at Englefield in the English county of Berkshire. It has been the TV location for a number of movies, including X-Men: First Class, The King's Speech, and Great Expectations, and for the television series Agatha Christie's Marple, Poirot and Partners In Crime. It was also used in the reality television series I Wanna Marry "Harry".

Background

Englefield House has a long history with the core of the current house being erected in Elizabethan times before 1558. After this house was partially damaged by fire there were substantial alterations by Thomas Hopper in the 1820s. It has been in the continued ownership of the Paulet and related Benyon families since then.

Agatha Christie & Other Media Coverage

Englefield has been a repeat visitor to TV episodes of the various Agatha Christie murder mysteries. Its grounds featured in Poirot for 'The Double Clue' where Poirot walks with the Countess at the beginning of the episode. It also provided the location in in the 2006 version of 'Taken At The Flood'. It has also appeared in Marple.
