The Arts & Crafts movement in the UK emerged in the Edwardian Era as the British response to a wider shift in building sentiment across Europe.. In Europe, the Arts Nouveau style emerged as style seeming to return to an honest, earthy building style. Sinewy organic form, and visual references to nature were the order of the day. In the UK, architects and designers such as William Morris and Edward Lutyens pioneered a more rustic return to building and design values.
