Emergency Lighting Certificate

There are two types of certificate for emergency lighting which affect landlords and the communal areas of rented property. These are a completion certificate for new installations; and a periodic inspection and test certificate. They are issued by electricians under guidance from ICEL - the Industry Committee on Emergency Lighting and the Electrical Safety Council (ESC).

There is a Government accreditation scheme to help you choose an EPC Supplier. Registering on this site will enable you to find locally accredited suppliers. see here [1].

Legal Basis[edit]

The legal requirements for electrical safety are dispersed across many pieces of legislation, including Acts of Parliament and regulations (Statutory Instruments). The main ones include the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (EAWR), and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).
