Gothic

Its a big question! Is Gothic an Architectural Period or a Building Style? More importantly, should any reference to Gothic be included in a Wiki about our homes? Our friends over at Wikipedia tell us here that buildings of every type were constructed in the Gothic period, 'with evidence remaining of simple domestic buildings, elegant town houses, grand palaces, commercial premises, civic buildings, castles, city walls, bridges, village churches, abbey churches, abbey complexes and large cathedrals'. Which is all true.

However, here at Chimni we are interested in peoples homes. So we haven't spent much time looking at 'proper' (ie medieval) Gothic Architecture because, unless you are the Queen, the Archbishop of Canterbury, or the Porter of a Cambridge college, its unlikely that your home is truly 'Gothic'. But what about Gothic Revival I hear you say? Aah...we say at Chimni, Gothic Revival? Now that's a completely different story...
